How do I choose a fitness club?
Me and a friend are looking to get in shape for springtime. I drove by a fitness club close by that said ’student rate’ (we’re juniors and seniors in high school) and it got me thinking about joining. I guess my question is, how do I choose a fitness club? How much do they cost, what’s included, what real benefits come from the money you spend there, where do I start? I know absolutely nothing about fitness clubs, so any information would be great. Thanks. =)
Price is usually the most important thing to decide on. They can be very expensive and even the most basic ones will probably have all the equiptment you need so you’re never getting much more for the extra cost.
Proximity and being able to get there easily is also important. You’re much more likely to keep it up if it doesn’t take you a massive effort before you’ve even started your workout!
Atmosphere is another thing factor. Friendly staff and clients can make a real difference to your motivation to keep going. Some fitness clubs can be a bit snooty or competative so I try to avoid those ones!
Finally, look at the machines that they’re offering. Do they look like things you’d want to make use of? Most will have the basic weight and cardio machines but if there’s anything specific you had in mind such as a swimming pool then look out for that.
Good luck with it. X

it depends on alot of things…. gut feeling, pleasant atmosphere, location, price, cleanliness..
u can do a few things first
1, start calling gyms to see what they charge, monthly, and if u have to sign a contract.. which i think is no good..
2. what the hours are of the gym.. u want to be at a gym that has flexible hours
3. a gym that is conveinant to go to and get to
4. most gyms let u tour them and do a workout in atleast once… so try a few gyms and then that way u get the best feeling as u are already there and u see the atmosphere..
goodluck
